The Erasmus+ Programme was established to promote student mobility and cooperation among entities in the fields of education, training, youth and sport.
What is the Erasmus Programme exactly?
What is Erasmus+ Programme
Erasmus+ is the EU’s Programme for education, training, youth and sport for the programming period 2021-2027.
Following the success of the 2014 – 2020 programme, Erasmus+ extended its offer to a larger number of participants, almost doubling the budget for the 2021/2027 period.
The Programme has three specific objectives:
To promote learning mobility of individuals and groups, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion and equity, excellence, creativity and innovation at the level of organisations and policies in the field of education and training;
To promote non-formal and informal learning mobility and active participation of young people, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion, creativity and innovation at the level of organisations and policies in the field of youth;
To promote learning mobility of sports staff, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion, creativity and innovation at the level of sports organisations and sport policies.
Potential of the Erasmus Programme
Embarking on a journey with the Erasmus+ Programme means interfacing with many different realities and opportunities beyond national borders, opening up new perspectives and possibilities for personal and professional growth.
The Erasmus+ Programme:
helps improving the skills of individuals;
broadens knowledge and understanding of national policies and practices;
strengthens the quality of teaching and learning;
promotes the modernisation and internationalisation of education and training institutions.
How does Erasmus Programme work?
The Erasmus+ Programme is built around three Key Actions:
Key Action 1 – Learning Mobility of Individuals promotes the mobility of students, youth workers and young people; the organisations may plan to send students and staff to other participating countries or welcome students and staff from other countries by organising teaching, training and volunteering activities;
Key Action 2 – Innovation and Best Practices promotes the development of the education, training and youth industries through knowledge exchanges among organisations from the above-mentioned industries;
Key Action 3 – Support to Policy Development aims to increase the participation of young people in political life, especially the dialogue with policy makers.
Who is eligible for Erasmus+ Programme?
Individuals constitute the main target population of the Programme. However, in order to access the activities supported by Erasmus+, it is necessary to refer to organisations, institutions, bodies or groups.
Therefore, there are two ways to participate in the programme:
As participants: individuals taking part in Erasmus+ project activities who may receive part of the EU grant to cover the costs of their participations;
As participating organisations: organisations or informal groups of young people involved in a Erasmus+ project, as applicants, partners or independent workers.
Beneficiary organisations must be located in the territory of one of the EU countries or in a third country associated with the Programme, whereas specific conditions may depend on the type of action supported by the Programme.
How do you apply to participate in Erasmus Programme?
In order to participate in the Erasmus Programme as an individual, you need to apply through an organisation, such as a university, a training centre or your own company.
If, on the other hand, it is an organisation that wishes to participate, first it is necessary to obtain accreditation in order to apply for a project grant.
